Since the lockdown, a lot of us have either been working from home or taken the hybrid work model. How have you navigated this new system? Have you been struggling with being productive? The hidden culprit is CLUTTER. Take a look at your work space. Are you impressed? Is the sight of it causing you to feel stressed?
Many people claim to be more productive in disorganized spaces, however, they actually are not as productive as they can be. Erin Doland, the Editor-in-chief of Unclutterer, says, “When your environment is cluttered, the chaos restricts your ability to focus”.
Let’s take these steps to create a clutter-free workspace that will not only enable maximum focus but also improve your productivity.
Pick a favorable day and time to declutter:
You probably have been procrastinating about decluttering your workspace, however, when you schedule it, you know it has to be done. Add this “great event” to your calendar so you know it's real!
Assign a home to every item in your space:
Every item in your workspace should have a designated spot or a home base where you can put them away. This makes it easier to put things away and helps you know where to find them the next time you need them.
Avoid clutter or hoarding:
Be aggressive about what you keep or throw away. This is especially for the hoarders who give excuses about why some long-kept items should be kept. If you haven’t used an item for a long time, it probably means you may never use them again. It's time to let it go (gift a loved one). Stop hoarding. These forgotten items clutter your workspace, making it hard for you to concentrate on your tasks. Everything in your workspace should be functional.
Upkeep your workspace:
Cleaning shouldn’t be done only once a week or a month. As you start your day, spend at least 5-10 minutes cleaning, and putting items back to their homes. Get rid of things immediately after you’re done with it. Do this everyday and watch your workspace get transformed into a clutter-free one.
Manage your cables:
Having cables everywhere can be such a pain, and can make your space look cluttered. This is one of the reasons why we decided to make the VOLTA Spark; one cable that can charge all your devices. Get rid of the tangled, multiple cables, and get the VOLTA Spark.
Declutter your mind:
A cluttered mind can lead to cluttered space. Get rid of the clutter in your mind, it will help you stay productive. Stop worrying, relieve anxiety, and stop thinking negatively; these affect your work, and your life in general.
